What is ELAC?
Each school elects a committee of parents, staff, and community members who advise school officials on Multilingual Learner programs and services.
Why do we have an ELAC?
ELACs exist to support our Multilingual Learner students on their lifelong paths to success. Per federal and state law, a school with 21 or more English Learners must have an ELAC.

- Identification and Assessment
- Language Support and Monitoring
- Reclassification
What will I learn?
Meetings topics may include:
- How to read your child’s ELPAC report and other test reports.
- What reclassification means and how your child can attain proficiency in English.
- How to support your child with schoolwork and homework.
- Understanding the ELPAC test.
- How to support your child’s social emotional well-being.
What are the responsibilities?
- Attend three to five meetings over the course of the school year.
- Advise the principal on the goal for Multilingual Learners for the School Plan for Student
- Achievement (SPSA).
- Share questions and concerns that parents or community members might have about the Multilingual Learner program.
- Select one representative to the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC).
How do I join?
Information about ELAC nominations and elections will be shared with families at the beginning of every school year. Nominate yourself and communicate interest to your school principal or vice principal. Please speak with your school vice principal about the schedule of meetings.
